Have y’all seen KCRA promoting “our new site, highschoolplaybook.com”? And have you also seen the commercial on KCRA for highschoolplaybook.com, clearly indicating that our region is just one of the communities featured on the site. (That commercial, by the way, is very confusing … the young gal is interviewing the football star, and then suddenly the sound goes out on them? implying to me that they are falling in wuv, but without that classical music snippet that they play when people are in wuv, you know the one. I assume it was written by Mozart.)
I assumed it was one of those mistakes about computers that old people make, like saying “how can I download the internet.” It made me wonder why they didn’t promote their new video feature a few months back as “our new online video site, YouTube.com”…
However, it took the wind out of my sails when I saw that the site is actually a property of Hearst-Argyle Television. Abort snark!!
last year at this time KCRA ran a show called KCRA Blitz 3 at the last 15 minutes of the 11 o’clock report that dealt with local high school football (other sports not being popular enough to warrent extra coverage, or any coverage as the case may be). this year they launced highschoolplaybook.com hopefully to replace the 11 o’clock feature as i haven’t seen it air or any promotional material.

Do we live in Texas or Ohio? No..So who cares about highschool football. You get more viewers these days if you just did live feeds from the local card rooms.

so i take it you’re not upset about Grant getting the shaft in the Cal-Hi and MaxPreps state rankings?

Upset? No. Especially since one of those rankings sounds like an old timey soda company and the other sounds like a tampon brand.

Show you how little this region has to offer other than high school football, drive by shootings, pot houses, meth freaks, parolees, asthma and sinus allergies!
KCRA can’t come up with more than Crimetracker 3 and a bunch of spoiled inarticulate kids tawking about fuutbaw.

Wow. It seems like this addition bugs some people. Check out the site if you are interested. Don’t check it out if you aren’t interested. Seems pretty simple to me. The NFL owns all other sports in ratings (I’m a baseball/hockey guy myself). That being said, it doesn’t seem all that crazy to me for KCRA to take America’s favorite game and highlight it on a local level.

We love us some snark here, and you have to take it if you’re going to give it. Personally, I’m a huge prep football fan, and after reading today about the Pacers gettin the shaft I definitely want to go root for them this season.

When it comes to sports I am a nut. Heck I will even watch Canadian tour golf, really old karate shows on comcast sports net or even the WNBA. I however think that highschool sports being put on a large stage is not a good thing. I was flipping the channel last night and Fox Sports Net had a highschool game from Arizona on. Why put these 14-18 year olds under that pressure let them go to school and be kids.
Oh and sac-eats my time playing at poker nights have not gone well. For some reason my nickname is ATM. I think I give up the cash to easy.

Not sure if there are any other ex-high school football players out there, but I think the pressure doesn’t really come from being on TV. I’d say the majority of it comes from parents trying to make their son the next Matt Leinart or Reggie Bush. Especially with the cost of college, it is all about that free ride to somewhere. That, in combination with the coaches out there who think they are Bill Walsh, trying to build their high school football dynasties, provide most of the pressure.

Tchaikovsky. From the ballet of “Romeo & Juliet.”
