More fuel for the KJ for mayor fire

Newish Natomas-based “The Buzz” found the Bee’s report today that a representative of Kevin Johnson has “pulled papers” for entering the upcoming election for mayor. KJ still has a few weeks to officially enter the race, or should I say to actually create a race, as otherwise Fargo would run unopposed, I believe.

  1. OK, so he’s a celebrity and has done some good (and some not so good) things in Oak Park. But does anyone really think that KJ has any idea of what it takes to be a Mayor? That he has any understanding of the issues facing the City and the State? Or the complex and often contentious relationship between the City and the State? Not to mention how the County and SACOG fit into the picture…

I guess I’d just like to see candidates who have some experience or background in local politics or activism rather than candidates who simply have the funds and PR machine to run a campaign.

And if I’m wrong about KJ and his involvement in or knowledge of local issues, feel free to enlighten me.

Kevin Johnson will announce Wednesday evening that he will challenge incumbent Heather Fargo in the Sacramento mayor’s race, Johnson’s campaign officials confirmed.

Johnson, a Sacramento landowner and developer who was an all-star basketball player at the University of California and with the Phoenix Suns in the NBA, founded St. HOPE, the nonprofit organization that runs Sacramento Charter High School. He has until 5 p.m. Friday to submit nomination papers to the City Clerk’s Office.

Johnson will make his official announcement at 5 p.m. at the Guild Theater in Oak Park, campaign sources said.

Fargo is seeking her third term as mayor in the June 3 election.
