A Russian and a Ukrainian walk into an arena…

The Kings were involved in another trade today, sending Brian Skinner to Portland for Vitaly Potapenko and Sergei Monia.

Skinner, you remember, used to get playing time last season. Potapenko was a highly-touted Ukrainian big man in 1996, when he was picked 12th overall by the pre-LeBron Cleveland franchise. Now, Potapenko is just a big Russian man. He was benched earlier this season by Seattle coach Bob HIll for being overweight and out of shape.

Monia is a Russian rookie swingman who doesn’t look entirely different from a mid-1990s Devin Sawa. He hasn’t played much in the States, though he starred for Russia’s top club team for several years. He ain’t Andrei Kirilenko, but then again, who is? He needs to learn how to shoot before he can help the Kings do anything.

So, anyone want to suggest some fine Eastern European fare around Sacramento for our new neighbors? (Because you know the first thing Vitaly and Sergei are doing after learning about the trade is cruising to The Sac Rag.)

FANtastic

If the Kings have the best fans in the NBA, why do so many people leave before the game is even over?

Last night’s spanking of the Warriors provided one of the largest premature pilgrimages to the parking lot that I’ve ever seen. When else are you going to see ALL the Kings play in one night? (I think the guy who mops the floor with the Kings logo mop even got to play for a minute or two.)

I was particularly thrown by the gentleman wearing his “DIE HARD KINGS FAN” t-shirt checking his BlackberryTM as he made his way up the stairs to leave at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

At least Sign Man, who sits just steps away from my mom & her friends’ seats, stayed the entire time (as did we.)

Attention Kings fans

Although I have a inexplicable disdain for him, I wanted to let you know that News10 will be airing the new ABC series “NBA Access with Ahmad Rashad” this Saturday at 3 p.m. This week’s episode will focus on the recent Ron Artest trade through the eyes of Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof.

NBA.com: What will we learn about you and your brother?

JM (Joe Maloof): Well, we’re not necessarily the jet-setters and the playboys that people think we are and that we have a lot of passion for our team. I think they know that, but we’re committed to trying to bring a title to Sacramento. We live and die with the Kings. We have a lot of other businesses, but we really love the Kings.

Committed you say?

Peja Traded; Rap Mogul/Noted Player Ron Artest Coming to Sacramento

UPDATE: Rumors are swirling that the deal is off. Damn unstable players and their psychotic tendencies.

Extra, extra, read all about it.

Even the most casual fans know Artest, possibly because he was suspended for most of last season after inciting a massive brawl in Detroit’s Palace of Auburn Hills. Also, you may know him as the guy who shaved the name of his record label into the back of his head.

Peja spent 6+ seasons here in Sacramento. He’s off to the Indiana Pacers, presumably to get his stroke back and become an All-Star caliber shooter again.

Lock up the women and children. Or at least do that when the Kings are next scheduled to come home, a week from today.

How bout them Kings?

My recent addition of Kenny Thomas from the waiver wire to my fantasy hoops squad ended up being a major coup. (I have McGrady, Yao, and Corey Maggette, so things are not looking good right now.) 22 and 15 over Matrix? Nice. Triple double last night? Triple nice.

Save it, stretch

Some don’t-miss piss and vinegar from Heckasac this morning on Aileen Voisin’s most recent call for a new home for da Kings. I never quite buy the argument that the pharoah skipping town unless the serfs build him a new pyramid is the serfs’ fault. If it’s purely a business decision, then the people have the power to pay or not pay, just as much as the owers have the power to stay or not stay. Me rhymey.

Vlade Flopper, Not Fighter

As hinted at by sac-eats and as posted by the ever alert and still not creatively paralyzed DB at The Barnesyard, former Sacramento Kings beloved center Vlade Divac is wanted in his home country of Serbia-Montenegro for draft evasion (or “avoison,” one of my favorite neologisms). Yeah, being wanted in Serbia-Montenegro does not sound like something you would wish on a person.

UPDATE: Offensive foul!!

UPDATE II: a half a second after finding this out, Mr. Divac fell to the ground inexplicably.

Kings Tidbits

TZ at Sactown Royalty hopes to show the world that the Lakers are evil.

I haven’t been paying as much attention to this “Team Dime” saga as I should, mostly because when I hear that name it sounds like maybe the name of a middle school club. Before you fear for my safety, dear readers, remember that Team Dime is just a “support group” for #10, and not a gang. Though if they start hanging out in West Sac nightclubs, since they’re banned from Sac, maybe West Sac won’t be so charitable in its labeling.
