A Nevada City resident with razor sharp reflexes snapped this screenshot of the Nevada City web cam right as the gun went off to start today’s stage of the AMGEN tour, which was moved at the last minute to NC from Squaw Valley due to weather:

The land mass on the left is a small (football field-size) island off the edge of Scotts Flat Lake in Nevada County, and it is where I spent by Fourth (a few blissful hours of it, anyway). (Here it is on Google Maps.) It was kind of like Tom Sawyer’s Island, the Disney attraction, but with 100% fewer pirate corpses.
We didn’t attend the parade this year but the weather was perfect.
My in-laws live up in beautiful Nevada City, CA and are big cycling fans, so this year’s AMGEN Tour is a pretty big event. Though I didn’t make it up the hill to enjoy the festivities with them, here are some photos they sent along of the day:
