Best. Pulled. Pork. Ever.

Imagine, if you will, a place that serves a pulled pork sandwich topped with bleu cheese Napa cabbage slaw, dill havarti, shallots, and spicy barbecue sauce, all on a toasty ciabatta roll. Now imagine eating such a sandwich and having never tasted its equal. Now imagine sitting down and writing about said sandwich on a local blog. If you’ve imagined all that, then we’ve pretty much had the same day: you in your head, me in reality.

All I can say is make the effort to go to Fog Mountain Cafe on the corner of 10th and I streets. Hell, even if you have to get a parking ticket so that you have to go to City Hall to pay it so that you have an excuse to be on that corner. Even if you have to taint a local well so that you have to go to the CalEPA building on the adjacent corner, do it.

Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos

The Avid Reader at the Tower continues its impressive author lecture series with discussion of a new book that has particular relevance for Sacramento. Seth Masket from the University of Denver will be in town to discuss No Middle Ground: How Informal Party Organizations Control Nominations and Polarize Legislatures. Masket’s book focuses on California politics and how extremist political views are encouraged. If you love politics but are frustrated by California’s status quo of hyperpartisan clashes and gridlock, this book and discussion are for you.

Pinkberry VIP grand opening

Hope we get this kind of star studded affair.

By now you know that the LA frozen yogurt chain Pinkberry is moving into the Sacramento fro-yo market, with several stores “swirling soon” around the area, including Howe ’bout Arden and Loehmann’s Plaza, Elk Grove, Sunrise and Davis.

I’m not the fro-yo aficionado that some of my compatriots are, so I’m sure this will get adequate coverage here on this Web log. I merely want to highlight the fact that for the grand opening at Howe ’bout Arden on Thursday, the PR folks behind the Pinkberry entree into Nor Cal are setting up a “VIP tent” and inviting all the movers and shakers in the area including top bloggers and Yelpers as well as politicians. For their sake, they better make sure they don’t snub the Deputy Secretary on Dry Toppings or the Assistant to the Commissioner on Parfait Regulation, or their kiwi processing bill is going to stall in committee, that’s for damn sure.

Kings continue push for #RekeROY

As the Kings wind down a forgettable season (7 losses in a row and counting…) their “totally unnecessary” campaign to get Tyreke Evans the Rookie of the Year award (ROY, get it?) reached ludicrous speed when they enlisted the talents of Dude Perfect to make crazy shots around Sacramento.

Hey, I’m not made out of wood, these shots are pretty cool.

Where the magic happens…

Here’s an entertaining, low budget video of Kings Forward/Center Jason Thompson taking viewers on a tour of his house crib. I especially enjoy the SPOTlighting and Carl’s Jr. force.

His diet choices were not lost on hoopeduponline.com

Jason Thompson nearly has everything a NBA player could want. Money, fame, a nice house but he definitely does not have a chef of nutritionist. Just by watching this video of JT showing you his crib, you could go into a diabetic shock because it’s like Willy Wonka is his roommate.

Here’s to next season, right? And to Andres Nocioni for pulling down a team high 7.5 million this season! I’ll drink to that…

J Greenberg joins us, performs at Luna’s Saturday

My friend and local TV producer J Greenberg is also a rock ‘n’ roll singer, and he is performing Saturday at Luna’s Cafe in a solo show. He opens for Family Bandits.

In addition, I am pleased to announce that J Greenberg will be joining us here at The Sac Rag as a contributor! He should provide a great dose of Midtown flavor and hopefully will be able to report on the music scene. Look for J’s take on our fair city starting soon.

More weirdness with SacBee comments

Here’s one I have not seen before. In the 911 blog, there is a story about a 16 year old kid who had a pipe bomb, flammable liquids and bomb making instructions. His mom found these things and turned him in to the police.

The story takes an interesting turn in the comment section. A reader who goes by the name ilikepiee claims to be the boy who was arrested. He admits that he is guilty and discusses his plans to blow something up just for fun, not to hurt anyone or destroy anything. It is just me, or does this bring up all sorts of strange legal issues?

DEEP cuts to RT service

The RT service cuts announced last night will hurt pretty bad. On a personal note, this rider loses 3 of his regular routes including the beloved (for some reason) 50E. Apparently the cuts were not as bad as expected, though since money doesn’t grow on trees, one doesn’t relish the sound of the other shoe dropping someday on the “last-minute agreement between the governor and Democratic legislators” that freed up an additional $12 million for RT.
