Last week, !!! came home to play Sacramento before a stop at Coachella on Friday. Coachella’s YouTube Channel, which resumes live broadcast tonight at 4pm, has highlights from their Friday performance and reminds me why Nic Offer is one of the most entertaining frontmen in music today.

Comedy Spot Seeks Funds for Signage
Anybody who knows anything knows that the Sacramento Comedy Spot kicks ass. I’ve been seeing shows there since their humble beginnings on Broadway and love their theater at the MARSS building, but it is pretty easy to walk by them and not even know that there is a professional theater troupe there. Why? No marquee.
This is why SCS is holding an online fundraiser to try and grab some attention. There are a variety of ridiculously generous offers in exchange for your support. A lifetime pass for $500? Six months of advertising for your business for $200? Awesome.
I’ll gladly be ponying up the $20 to help in the effort and I hope you will, too.
DDDad’s Kitchen Tonight!
Guy Fieri continues his tour of Sacramento when Diners, Drive-ins and Dives visits Dad’s Kitchen. Bought by Julio Peix from some juggalos scant more than a year ago, Dad’s has quickly become a local favorite on Freeport with a tasty mix of comfort food, craft beer and great music. Poke your head in tonight, it will probably be a fun party. DDD is on the Food Network at 9:00pm.
Sacramento Beer Week
Get your livers tuned up and your walking shoes a-ready, as Sacramento Beer Week is here again! More than 300 beercentric events are listed on the website for your tasting pleasure.
Much like last year, the second annual celebration of Sacramento’s craft beer community will feature tastings, pairings, beer dinners and more at all of our local breweries, alehouses and restaurants on a daily basis. The difference is more venues and some new ideas. The week begins with the Showcase of Sacramento Breweries at Crocker Museum this Thursday and is anchored by the impressive Capital Beerfest at Cal Expo on March 5th. Organizers are even supplying free bus service to help revelers travel safely, a very nice touch. Another new event for this year is the Meet the Masters beer dinner, which features all of the Sacramento-area brewers at The Sterling Hotel.
What Beer Week events are you looking forward to?
More hot Sacto action on DDD
Guy Fieri continues his DDD tour of Sacramento at Gatsby’s Diner.

Guy Fieri continues this season’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives tour of Sacramento with a stop at Gatsby’s Diner tonight. Earlier this season, he stopped at The Golden Bear and business immediately boomed. A similar effect is expected when his visit to Dad’s Kitchen airs in four weeks.
As usual, the food he featured looked great as chef-owners Chuck Caplener and Jerad Nuttall showed off their local examples of homemade dishes and condiments. Guy tried the beet sliders, smoked pork chops, and German beef rouladen.
Since we know he’ll be back, where else should Guy visit in Sacramento? Am I crazy, or does he almost never feature Asian restaurants?
Popfest this Friday!

Sacramento’s culinary community is banding together this Friday to help out friend in need. If you are a local foodie and have a little cash for a great cause, you won’t want to miss Popfest at the Sterling Hotel. Popfest will benefit Poppy Watson, who was terribly injured in a dog attack last November. She has already undergone two reconstructive surgeries, has several more ahead of her and the bills are already devastating.
This is the part where you go to the Sterling Hotel on Friday for Popfest. You will feast on wonderful food from the all-star lineup of Selland, Mulvaney, Mahan, Ngo, Pechal and Zoellin. You will quench your thirst and cleanse your palate with local creations from Two Rivers Cider, Barryessa Gap Vineyards and my favorite new local winery, Turkovich Family Farms, or cocktails made by bartenders from The Shady Lady and DeVere’s Irish Pub. You will try the incredible new Fortaleza Tequila, which is made using centuries-old artisan techniques. You will hold your head in shocked delight at the prizes you can win in both a live and silent auction.

Don’t sell state office buildings!
SacRag writer Stickie sez “booooooo” to selling off California state office buildings.
Before GAS became EX-GAS, one of his final victories was arranging a deal to sell 11 of the 24 state buildings that he placed on the market under the guise of fiscal austerity. This deal included several pieces of Sacramento real estate: The East End Complex, Attorney General Building, Emergency Management Agency Building, Franchise Tax Board Complex, and Department of Justice Building. Their sale was blocked in December by a state appellate court.
Luckily, a new administration means a chance to reverse this decision before it costs California billions.

SacMag’s picks for local eats
Sacramento Magazine just published a great piece on local food artisans. This is perfect for the holiday season as sweaters, socks and random crap is fine for gifts, but everybody loves deliciousness. Buying locally keeps money in the Sacramento area economy and supports the businesses and people that I personally want around my town.
On a theoretical level, these are all sound arguments, but they are strongly supported by the outstanding quality of these products. Have you tried Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates? Or the bottled offerings from Two Rivers Cider or Odonata Beer Company? Or Pasta Dave’s creations? All incredible. All very giftable.
During your shopping season, remember the people that make Sacramento great and support them.
Revolution Grand Opening!
Revolution Wines will be celebrating all weekend in their new location at 28th and S. Their previous spot, an industrial space behind a hair salon, was too small for their growing winery and their penchant for serving appetizers while local musicians played. Revolution retained its urban flavor in the comfortable and funky new bistro, tasting room and winery.
All weekend, new releases of Malbec Port, Verdelho Blanco Port and Rio Tinto (a Touriga/Tannat blend) will be paired with selections from their kitchen along with cellar tours, barrel tasting and specials on award-winning wines. All day Sunday, Gina will be serving her famous Chicken and Dumpling Soup just in time for a wet weekend.
Go wish Revolution Wines good luck and prosperity on their winemaking adventure.
Happy Anniversary, Sierra Nevada!
Founded in 1980 by home brewers Ken Grossman and Paul Camusi, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company helped create the modern microbrewery industry. Thirty years later, it remains near the top of this industry in both sales and accolades, still lead by Grossman and still brewing its flagship beer that launched a thousand microbreweries.
Their proximity to Sacramento makes this celebration particularly sweet. If you are a lover of local beer, you have loved Sierra Nevada Pale Ale at some point in your life. No matter what craphole in California I was stuck in, I could almost always find it, and I was damn relieved it was there. I still love it today.
This year, Sierra Nevada collaborated with other pioneers of craft beer and brewed four celebratory anniversary beers. Throughout the area, there are several opportunities to try these and other extraordinary beers in the Sierra Nevada portfolio.
