In today’s Bee, the Arden/Carmichael section talks about the new “public art” that decorates the median of Watt Avenue from Butano to El Camino. Apparently the artistic barrier (it’s really a fence to keep people from j-walking) shows the “symbols and images of the area’s past, present and future.”  This includes fish, birds, and a palm tree made from stone. Two things stand out here: 1) There is one scene in the piece that shows a four-legged animal that Mrs. Eats and I have a debate going on about. She says it’s a wolf, I say it’s a goat. We may need your help with this. 2) Depressingly, the dedication will be held tomorrow in the Wal Mart parking lot, which may be a comment on the future of public art, or the weight given to current art, or the ridiculous gigantor-size of the Wal-Mart parking lot.
Poll Dancing
Hey there readers. I know you were just as excited as I when you saw that this month’s issue of Sacramento Magazine featured a special reader’s poll on all the best places to eat. After last year’s good showing for local restaurants, I’m sad to say that Sacramento Magazine readers have slipped a bit and are back to their chain-eating ways. Here’s a few examples: Best Chips & Salsa-Chevy’s, Best Brewpub-BJ’s, Best Burger-In ‘n’ Out.  Do I need to say that the region’s best chips and salsa are not at Chevy’s? No, I don’t think so. I would have voted (actually I did vote) for Caballo Blanco which is on the corner of Franklin and Fruitridge.  NOTE: Keep your eyes out for a Sac Rag reader’s choice awards coming soon.
Oh, and one more thing: no matter what the Sac Mag readers think, Texas West BBQ is not the best BBQ in Sacramento. Period.
Score some craaak in East Sac
A great photo on FFT today snapped at (I presume) the new “Little Lucky” Rite Aid…
Have you been in there, though? It’s kind of eerie for some reason. They are one of the new businesses to have a Sac library drop box. And I’ve rediscovered the ole Thrifty ice cream as it is cheap and the kiddies love it.
Oz Korean BBQ: There’s No Place Like Home
Some people just don’t understand Korea. They quickly overlook it when considering the important cultures that make up Asia. They figure that it’s probably kind of like China and kind of like Japan and just hanging out, waiting for someone to visit. The truth is that Korea is very different culture than either of its larger neighbors. The Koreans have staked their territory in Asia and created a fiercely independent culture that includes some pretty nasty wars, some pretty crazy movies and some pretty good food. New Local Distinction
You heard it here first!
It’s been a while since we’ve had a “Right Awn!” so might I nominate the Discovery Museum in Old Sacramento? Today it will join a distinguished list of museums that are official affiliates of the Smithsonian.
The goal of the affiliate program is to create vital relationships with communities by working with local museums and educational institutions. This new status will give the Discovery Museum access to borrowing artifacts from the Smithsonian to have on display here, plus access to other resources from the venerable institution. Chainman
Has anyone else around Midtown encountered Chainman? A.K.A. Chainguy? A.K.A. Chaindude (I hear he is called that around the Beach Hut Deli)?
For those of you whom have not had the pleasure, Chainman is a fairly normal looking guy, although his style is a little Venice Beach for Sacto. Normal, except for the two chains wrapped around his fists. He prefers chains with thin torus-shaped links and a stainless-steel veneer. They each appear to be 6 feet in length. I wonder what his deal is with those chains.
He jangles as he walks. Usually, before seeing Chainman, you hear him. Down the street. Around the corner. Tonight, it was a few aisles over at Safeway. I was getting some Kefir and heard the distinctive chink-chink-chink somewhere near the “lunch” aisle. Spooky. (Sidenote – Is anyone else bugged by the crappy reorganize of the S Street Safeway?)
I was a little spooked. Then I giggled. Then, I hoped I didn’t have an encounter with Chainman while giggling, for that would be tough to explain, so I got spooked again.
Keep an ear out for Chainman.
Just something about this town
The Game Guy was YouTubin’ and sent me a “must post immediately.” I present to you Scottish pop group Middle of the Road with their 1971 hit “Sacramento.”
There’s something about the people
That everybody knows
That gives you a tender feeling
Of the future
It’s so true. Music video (hilariously not filmed in Sacramento… is it even about Sacto., CA?) after the jump…
Is Dad’s Closed for Good?
No. But every family-run business needs a family vacation. Don’t worry, though, your favorite sandwich shop and mine will be slinging all organic veggies and prime meats again before you know it. Dad’s will be open again on July 23rd.

“Sac Town Raw” a new low for CBS13
Didja catch CBS13’s report last night on “Sac Town Raw”…
A local film producer is releasing a very controversial video showing Sacramento teenage girls engaged in vicious fights. It’s called “Sac Town Raw”.
CBS13 spoke with the producer and he says it may be shocking but he’s only reporting what he calls ‘Urban News’.

Sam Shane
is their leader
Oddly enough I can almost hear CBS13 giving a similar defense to my postings… CBS boldly went on to question whether the videos were even legal, talking to several law enforcement officials who had to admit that unless the video was of an assault (i.e. if the participants are not willing) that the videos were technically not illegal.
