Please to allow me to continue the rant I started before Christmas.
So the results of a survey about the employment outlook for 2009 in Sacramento were released on Wednesday. Check out the headlines from the Google News feed:
Super…Great…Grand. Did I mention that we get it? No one is saying that these are the days, but come on. Report different.

I’m sure you already know that Cheffrey’s has the best sweet potato fries in existence, and that their prime rib burger is one of the best burgers you’ll ever have, and that their house wine is served in half-bottle-sized pours. What, you didn’t know that? Well, it’s about time you went and found out for yourself, isn’t it?
No, I don’t put fingertips to keyboard today to tell you how good the food is at Cheffrey’s. That you should find out for yourself. I instead reach out across the interweb super byway to tell you that owners Mark and Jeffrey are not only creative, talented, hard-working, generous, charitable to a fault, and kind to small animals. No, I tell you today, after perusing the latest News & Review, that they are, in fact, adorable. How else to explain what has to be the cutest coupon ever? How many small business owners do you know that put caricatures of themselves in their promos? None, that’s how many.
Even if the food were only mediocre (which is most assuredly is not) I’d still want to patronize Cheffrey’s just because of its owners’ pluck. (hehe, pluck)

Flush with success and proud of a job well done, we turn the page on another award winning year here at the ‘Rag, and what better way to start anew than to revisit some old mentions that never quite got their full due. In the spirit of “everything old is new again” here are a few updates on restaurants, events, chefs, coffee shops, etc. that got brief mentions previously and really need some more ink. It has come to my attention that the Red Lion Hotel (nee Sacramento Inn) is to be redeveloped by Capital Management Group. You can read about the proposed changes here, but there is one specific change that I would like to see. I took the time to email Jeffrey Berger, president of Capital Management, the following message, hoping that others would do the same. Continue reading “To Your Local Developer Write” »

UPDATED 4:00 pm: If you weren’t able to hear the live broadcast of “Insight” featuring writers from the Sac Rag today, you can check out the archived audio here. Listen especially closely for the moment when sac-eats’s and Stickie’s breathing peaks and their hearts stop as Jeffrey Callison says, “I did a search on The Sac Rag and came across the following piece about me…” You can almost hear Stickie and sac-eats thinking to themselves, “What stupid thing did we say about this fine gentleman that we’re now going to regret for the rest of our lives?” It’s what live radio is all about.
The Sac Rag was featured on “Insight,†the local topics show hosted by Jeffrey Callison on KXJZ.

90.9 actually. That’s where we’ll be tomorrow, August 1, between 2-3pm. The Sac Rag will be featured on “Insight,” the local topics show hosted by Jeffrey Callison on KXJZ. Keep an ear to your Filco and you might hear the dulcet tones of sac-eats and CoolDMZ mixing with the subtle Scottish brogue of the show’s host. If you do miss it, check out the archive here.

Bee fashion writer Leigh Grogan reports at 21Q that “several of Sacramento’s finest designers” will be traveling to L.A. to audition for season 4, which will debut later this spring. I know what you’re thinking: there are several?

While driving back from a meeting in Turlock this afternoon, when I finally regained the signal to Capital Public Radio I was instantly engaged in a story being told on Insight. Continue reading “KLJ: The Perfect Stocking Stuffer” »
