The Koz is Back

jim-kozimor-96eGood news/bad news:

Good news first. Jim Kozimor, beloved sports announcing personality here in Sacramento, has gotten a chance at a second go-around with KHTK 1140. His new show, starting today, will air weekdays from 12-4 and will undoubtedly feature Kozimor’s candor, humor, and boyish good looks. Most of Sacramento was sad to see Kozimor laid off from the Maloof Sports and Entertainment broadcast team, and is happy to see Koz back on the air. While there’s no official name yet for the new Kozimor show, we at the ‘Rag suggest the following: “The Offical Report of Koz-ickstan,” or “The Kozy Korner”, or “The Sunshine Happy Goodtime Hour.”

Bad news. One of the reasons that this opportunity opened up in the first place is that the Mike O’Meara show, formerly the Don & Mike show, has been dropped from the Washington station from which O’Meara broadcasts. Many of us were devout listeners to the rowdy, smart, and media-centric show out of D.C. and will be sad to see it go, probably for good.

Burrous takes credit for spotting Art Beast

This morning’s Good Day Sacramento featured Art Beast in several spots in the “Prego (sic) & Beyond Posse” segment. (Or are they are covered in delicious sauce?) Reporter Lisa Gonzales spends a few hours at the studio, which looks like the most amazing place ever, interviewing owner Bridget Alexander. Anchor Chris Burrous then takes credit for “finding” Art Beast. What I assume he means is that he saw it first on this here web log and thought it looked like a good story ripe for horkin’. Only Mr Burrous knows for sure…

Funny side note: the title on the videos tab says “Prego Posse & Beyond,” which is what you might think it was supposed to be called if all you had was the logo, which shows the words “Prego” and “Posse” in the same typeface (see right).

Online observations

The online scene in Sacramento today is especially entertaining …

From the Home page of cbs13.com:

Last week, we brought you a story about an accused shoplifter who used a baby as a shield against law enforcement in the parking lot of a strip mall. We have since learned the alleged shoplifting crime happened inside a Ross store, not a Marshalls as previously reported. We are sorry for any confusion caused by the initial report.

When I first read that story last week I thought, “No way!”, and it turns out my spidey-sense was right. Now, the only confusion I have is about the future of the human race.

From sacbee.com:

Editor’s Note: Comments on this story have been removed because too many users have violated our rules against personal attacks.

And from our very own web log:

Went to Barret Junior High with Lisa Ling. Stuck up snotty bitch who did everything possible to make life hell for the few kids who went there that were poor, like myself. Doesn’t have anything to do with her sister, just wanted to put that out there …

We haven’t had to use it in a while, but I think today it’s worth dusting off …

Stay classy, Sacramento.

Seriously, who takes Arnie seriously?

KRXQ is under fire again for Sacramento’s #1 morning radio show and their wacky antics. The titular Rob Williams & Arnie States of the Rob, Arnie and Dawn Show have drawn nationwide scorn for their hateful comments towards gender dysphoric children and blaming of the transgendered for America’s descent down a slippery slope of zoophilia and bestiality. Arnie is additionally targeted for comments approving of violence against boys wearing high-heeled shoes, and for his thoughts on beating his theoretical high-heeled wearing gay child, if he were to have one.

In case you have never met the trio on 98 Rock, they star as self-caricatures on a radio/comedy show with three hyper-opinionated friends. Think Seinfeld in Cowtown. Arnie plays the fat, dumb, loser, hick. Rob plays the successful capitalist genius. Dawn plays the crazy, loudmouthed, overly-emotional woman. Each show features voyeuristic details of their lives, which helps keep their loyal audience. Regular listeners get to be in on a lot of jokes, like Dawn’s therapeutic vacations, Arnie’s tiny penis, and Rob’s snobbish tastes.

The show makes jokes and provides commentary on retarded children, fat people, gay men, nerds, people with chronic diseases, single mothers, lesbians, people from every foreign country, liberals, illegal immigrants, women, child molesters, environmentalists, and dumb people. They were fined $55,000 in 2004 for “graphic and detailed discussions of various methods that men may employ to disgrace, degrade and humiliate women before, during and after sexual intercourse,” according to the FCC.

Danny Pommells has left KCRA

Danny PommelsI actually learned this first from the scoreboard at Raley Field yesterday: it appears Danny Pommells’ contract was not renewed at KCRA and he has left the station’s sports department. Del Rogers is going to be a one-man show at KCRA.

UPDATE: I want to be clear that from what I have heard, the reason Pommells’ contract was not picked up is that KCRA is reducing its sports staff. Del Rogers, you may want to hook up with RunnerGirl at some point before your contract is up…

News10 still has Bryan and Ryan, and of course Jim Crandell still handles things at Fox40. But after CBS13 let Arran Anderson go a few weeks ago the sports scene is looking worse than ever here in Sacramento.

Bee misleads on marriage

The Sac Bee’s cover story on differences between married couples, domestic partnerships and other types of couples includes a table of info outlining some specific differences regarding children, medical and taxes. Without opening up this debate, several claims in the Bee’s graphic about marriage and other relationships are misleading.

Sports Show RIP

We heard from a reader named Doug this morning that CBS13’s “The Sports Show” may have been canceled. It looks like that scoop is indeed correct. Arran Anderson’s bio page on CBS13.com is “Page not found,” though Andrew Luria’s is still on there. Reader Doug also wonders whether CBS13/CW31 has canceled all sports coverage in general, which would seem to follow. “Sports Show” pretty much was the entirety of CBS13’s sports coverage. I guess we’ll see this weekend?

They always say these things happen in threes: Kozimor, KWOD, Sports Show…

UPDATE: looks like Anderson and “Sports Show” are gone, but there will still be sports coverage.

KWOD RIP (1977-2009)

Unless you are unemployed, drunk or an insomniac, by the time you are reading this, 106.5 KWOD is gone. As of 9AM on Friday 5/22/09, the commercial home to alternative music in the Sacramento Valley since 1991 is off the air. Be careful not to step in the pools of black mascara left by mourning fans of the holy trinity of mope rock (Morrissey, The Cure and Depeche Mode).

The irony is, according to rumor, it will be replaced by a station called The BUZZ, which will specialize in 90’s rock and alternative music. That’s right. KWOD may very well be replaced by a station that will be using KWOD’s exact format, but from 15 years ago.

Text of Sac Bee’s embarrassing draft post-election editorial

Here is the full text of the cringe-worthy “internal discussion” version of the Sac Bee’s post-election editorial (which was updated yesterday afternoon, here). Items you may need before you read this: vomit receptacle, punching bag, phone number to cancel your subscription.

Editorial: You did it! Uh, so what now?

Good morning, California voters. Do you feel better, now that you’ve gotten that out of your system?

You wanted to show the state’s politicians just how mad you are at them. And you did. Boy, did you ever.

“1st-Grader Threatens To Shoot Classmate”

green gun
not this kid… or WAS IT???

KCRA reports:

A first-grader at a Sacramento school threatened to shoot a classmate over an argument, police said.

Authorities were called to Caroline Wenzel Elementary School at 6870 Greenhaven Drive at 11:45 a.m. Monday to assist school officials with an investigation, Officer Norm Leong said.

The 6-year-old’s father was contacted and advised of the threat. No arrests were made.

Investigation? No arrests made? You don’t say. I’m glad the principal, Judy Montgomery/Philip Moore according to SCUSD’s website, didn’t decide to go off book and handle this themselves. If this was my kid, I would be so livid that I would probably forget to scold him for being such a dingbat. Is that really the district’s policy when it comes to these things?
