Tied to the Wiki post

The current issue of the News & Review features Sacwiki.org, the newly launched wiki site from the guys who made Daviswiki.org. This should be a swell resource for useful and questionable information about our fair city.

Other than reading Wikipedia, I have never been a big wiki guy myself, so I don’t know the etiquette… is it typical to create a new page about your “thing” or is that a no-no?

City Beat, starring SacPD as itself

My wife and I were looking for information about the Sac PD’s bus billboards that show a random trunk search with the text “How much junk is in your trunk?” when we found City Beat, the Sac PD’s video channel. I dare you not to think of those public service announcement videos on “Reno 911!”

There’s actually some fun facts in episode #1 about the history of Sac PD. I would embed one of the videos here for you to watch but I don’t want to mess with the po-po…

You can call me Betty (Giraffe)

Tortoises
Give… us… nametags…

Checking out the Zoo yesterday with my mom and my daughters I realized something about zoos that for some reason I’ve never thought of before: they never show the public the animals’ names. I’m positive that the zookeepers know each animal’s name, and granted it would be difficult to explain which zebra is which, but wouldn’t it introduce an extra element of fun to the proceedings? “Ooh that one must be Sally, because that stripe below her ear has a little crook to it”…

Is this something you see at other zoos? The new penguin exhibit does show the names for each bird, and it is extremely difficult to tell them apart. But it is fun and the names are cute. I’m telling you, this could be a hit.

GSWs’ hoop dreams come true tonight

Run TMC
Run M and C and their
terrible terrible friend

I’m gonna “show my Norcal” today and throw a shout out to the Golden State Warriors, my — and probably many Sacramentans’ — first favorite basketball team. The team will host its first playoff game in 13 years tonight.

The Bee’s report by Scott Howard-Cooper highlights an expected 50% increase in season ticket holders by the start of the next season that got a jump-start even before the playoff berth was official. That’s great news for a franchise that has been in the dumps since dumping Chris Webber. Hey, wait a minute…

Pancho’s Mexican Grill

Pancho Villa
Gnl. Francisco Villa,
“El Centauro del Norte”

I live by a few simple rules, and one of them is: If “Al Pastor” is on the menu, I order it. That pastor makes some spicy delicious pork.

Earlier this week I decided to finally check out Pancho’s Mexican Grill, which is right in my neighborhood. Named after Mexican Revolutionary Pancho Villa, the “centaur of the north,” it’s your typical taqueria, with a large menu full of specialties. (The menu’s design could use some typographic hierarchy, would be my only comment–when you visit you’ll see what I mean.)

No, ME blog

We’re 2 now, so we talk like it. That’s right, today marks the 2nd birthday of this here Web log! According to WordPress, “There are currently 1,128 post and 4,599 comments, contained within 83 categories.”

I have recently realized that there are more “Sac Rag people” than I can name offhand and I love that. And there are new ones every day. I think it’s a great place to be and I see us growing by leaps and bounds this year. I’m sure I speak for all my compatriates when I say that being part of The Sac Rag is one of the most fun things I’ve ever done. Thanks to all the readers for making it a fun 2 years.

Sac not one of bloggiest cities?

In fact, we didn’t even make the website… via Boing Boing, here is outside.in, another placeblog site. Their list of “bloggiest neighborhoods” includes one norcal hood, Potrero Hill in SF, and highlights the Potrero Hill SF blog.

I’m a total homer, but I think Sacramento is very very bloggy. Don’t you think? I don’t know how a small district of a city is more bloggy than Sac. We’re definitely the snarkiest norcal town…
