TZ of the irreplaceable Sactown Royalty (and sometime Ragger) says to expect a major announcement from proponents of the widely-assumed-DOA arena ballot measures tonight, presumably as the votes are being counted. With special guest Roger Dickinson on the fiddle? (Wait a minute, who would vandalize the article about Nero? Why would facts be in dispute? Are there Roman fire deniers out there that I don’t know about?)
Decision 2006 #2
Well here we are, Sacramento, it’s time to get out the vote. Beckler has an entertaining post on Heckasac conjuring Aileen Voisin’s penchant for straw men and the helpful services they provide. If anyone has any enjoyable polling place stories or witnesses anything out of the ordinary (people eating $6000 combo meals outside your polling place, for example) make sure to post them here.
More evidence that Doolittle will win his seat
CBS13 has thrown their support behind the Sac Rag’s prognostication regarding Doolittle’s impending victory (red box for emphasis is our own):

Only in Sacramento…
Last week two very incredible things happened to me, and they both I think have everything to do with life here in Sacto. First of all, we found out that one of my daughter’s preschool classmates lives in the house I grew up in. Her parents actually bought it from my parents about 4 years ago, and now she is one of 24 or so kids in my daughter’s class.
The second one is I think even weirder. Continue reading “Only in Sacramento…”
Still confused about tomorrow?
With the clock ticking down ’til Election Day, here is a last-minute tip for those undecided on some statewide candidates and initiatives.
Listen to candidate interviews from both sides of the aisle and the pros and cons of ballot measures. It’s all courtesy of local political analyst Gary Dietrich.Â

The “other” ballot issue: SMUD vs. PG&E
PG&E’s spending of more than $10 million to fight the Yolo County request for power from SMUD has attracted attention nationwide. This morning, the New York Times took a look at the issues. (Need a log-in?)
The Dead Zone
There are certain parcels of land that seem jinxed. No matter what kind of store, service provider, or restaurant sets up shop in particular spots, they are almost doomed to fail based solely on the track records of previous tenants. Â
Here are a few that come to mind: Continue reading “The Dead Zone”
Totugas, Not Just Turtle Soup Anymore
I have just had my first experience at Totugas, the Ernesto’s owned sandwich shop on 18th and Capitol, next door to Zocalo. It is, in one word, “Tortastic.” The slow simmered pork and dense breads turned lunch time into food coma time and the mesmerizing Animal Planet gorilla special showing on the giant flatscreen only made the day more enjoyable.
Downside: only place to sit inside is on a series of tiny stools that belly up to a narrow, wall-mounted bar.
Upside: Gut-warming food that is served until at least 2am, so a great choice for lunch or late-night.

Halloween wrap-up
We enjoyed some high-returns trick-or-treating last night in Tahoe Park (specifically the region between 11th and Raymond Aves and 58th-60th streets. It was positively hoppin, a great vibe.) Witches seemed to be very popular. As usual, the most popular costume had to be “punky high schooler walking around with a pillowcase full of candy” (and I know that’s not limited to TP…)
When we got home and reviewed the photos we realized that I wore the same outfit as last year, which is funny considering it’s a night specifically about dressing up, even though as I previously stated I do not participate. Read on for the photo comparison…
Hulk sighting
A friend told me about an hour ago that his wife had just spotted Hulk Hogan at a local 24 Hour Fitness, obviously coinciding with his daughter Brooke’s appearance at 107.9 The End’s Halloween party last night. Who among you (okay, among you 25-35 year old males) does not picture him strutting his stuff in the original yellow and red spandex? Ah, nostalgia…
