In honor of tonight’s CGSO by the unfortuntely-hairstyled Tim Lincecum I’d like to belatedly post this photo I snapped at Sunday’s division-winning victory over the Padres. It was the first SF Giants game I had attended in a few years and it was one for the books.
Kings guard Tyreke Evans was suspended for one game without pay for his reckless driving charge on May 31, the league announced today.
This made the news originally, but was quickly passed up by other sports stories. Then, the video was released and things started back up again. And now the NBA decides it wants to crack down on these misbehavin’ kids.
Also suspended by the NBA were Brandon Rush of the Indiana Pacers and Kenny Hasbrouck of the Miami Heat. Rush was suspended for five games for violating the league’s anti-drug program and Hasbrouck two games for driving while intoxicated.
I tend to lean on the side of “these kids need to learn their lesson” as it is frustrating to read one story after the other about professionals athletes making bad decisions. And, although no one was injured in the incident, there were some seriously close calls what with the bobbing and weaving going on between the two cars. On the other hand, is this suspension in response to the action or the publicity of the video and subsequent renewed media attention? That is, is this like rubbing your dog’s face in the mess he made in the living room twenty minutes after you’ve cleaned it up?
I had to take a shot of this today while at the California Family Fitness in Natomas. If you’re like me, you’ll immediately think of this scene. More entertaining than writing about a body “showing up” in Sacramento canal, huh?.
The fully-clothed body appears to be a man. It was found hung up on a buoy about three feet from a ladder.
“Appears” to be a man. Ok, then, who wants a Fresca?
The short sale that Artest used to escape his losing real estate investment has become a commonplace tactic in an area beset by plunging housing prices…In Sacramento County, 58 percent of homes for sale in mid-May were short sales, according to Metrolist Services.
With the sale, the forgiven debt is $480,000, but Artest just might get a parting gift out of his short stay in Sacramento. Recently signed state and federal legislation eliminates taxes on forgiven mortgage debt from 2009 through the end of 2012.
Eliminates taxes? Whoa, whoa, whoa. I thought taxes were, oh, nevermind…
I recently attended a Rivercats game on fireworks night and, man, it’s quite a show. Friday is also $1 Hot Dogs & Desserts night. You can’t beat Raley Field to catch a game.
Anything else going on? I’m sort of ambivalent about this holiday. I love me some flag waving and parading, but could really use less of the round-the-clock neighborhood fireworks for days before and after. Damn kids and their tomfoolery.
Not being able to land a job anywhere in the NFL, even as a third-stringer, has got to be difficult to accept for Culpepper, who most recently played quarterback for the Detroit Lions. We’re talking about a two-time All-Pro, a three-time Pro Bowler and a guy who once graced the cover of Madden. Now he’s on a team that’s also accepting players from open tryouts.
“I believe there are enough talented athletes out there who can succeed in professional football and we are giving them that opportunity,” said Sacramento Mountain Lions head coach Dennis Green. “Players who enjoyed successful college careers but for whatever reason did not then play at the professional level are still out there and we plan to find them.”
My in-laws live up in beautiful Nevada City, CA and are big cycling fans, so this year’s AMGEN Tour is a pretty big event. Though I didn’t make it up the hill to enjoy the festivities with them, here are some photos they sent along of the day: Continue reading “AMGEN Tour photos”
Two-wheeled locomotion is all the rage this month in the Sacramento area. May Is Bike Month, sponsored by various local municipalities, public transit agencies, and government groups, is basically a massive jog-a-thon for cycling nuts, only instead of the marching band getting new uniforms, we all just get more time to enjoy cycling. The program’s goal for the area is to log one MEELLION miles, and they already have close to 1.25 million pledged.
