Sac Bee reports Sac Bee to change comments

The Sac Bee reports today that the Sac Bee will switch over to using Disqus for its commenting system on December 1.

Disqus offers many new options to watch, follow and share comments – and promotes greater accountability among contributors to boost the overall quality of comments.

If we’ve learned anything it’s that technology can always improve human discourse. There will be more integration with Facebook, which is an Internet Website, but it looks like the biggest change is that the Bee will purge its site of all the old comments. Which means that commenters like “derphmm” will need to create new gems of wisdom, like this one on the upcoming comments changes (posted to The State Worker blog)

Boy this is a GREAT IDEA! (NOT!!) Now if any state employee comments on anything those wacked out state employee haters can hunt you down and beat or kill you! Oh boy what a joy to look forward to!!!! And you can’t tell me that there are not enough state employee haters to cause this concern, and you can’t tell me that they aren’t that crazy either, look at so many of the anti worker comments!
Another way for the BEE to Stiffle any reasonable discourse and make it a more hostile place to express any opinion that is not in line with the Ghestapo!
You go and let the lunitics rule!!!

SN&R’s Best of Sacramento

The News & Review’s annual Best of Sacramento lists are out today, and while yours trulys got the shaft this year (well deserved maybe?) I’m sure there are some interesting picks on the list. It seems like the Reader’s Picks have finally made a hard turn toward the local, and it lifts the spirits to read the listings and see how many great local establishments are out there that people love.

What do you think? Any picks that you’re pumped about? Anybody else left in the cold?

Roseville: Confidential

Screenshot of roseville.ca.us salary information
Do not click on this link, it's confidential!
My favorite part of this mess with the salaries of city officials is the way each city is posting their salary information online. My favorite? The City of Roseville. The first link under “Salary Schedules” is titled “Confidential.” That’s just awesome.

I am sure the Bee is working on their own version for this for their “the gym locker combinations of every gym member in Northern California” database collection.

More radio retreading in Sacramento

Radio station 100.5 The Zone has been made over as Now 100.5.

CBS Radio has relaunched Hot AC “100.5 The Zone” KZZO Sacramento as Adult CHR “Now 100.5″ playing “Today’s Best Hits Without The Rap” at noon today.

“Without the Rap.” Love it.

The first hour consisted of:
Daughtry – What About Now, Nickelback – This Afternoon, Lady Gaga – Bad Romance, The Script – Breakeven, Train – Calling All Angels, Pink – Who Knew, Bon Jovi – Who Says You Can’t Go Home, Ke$ha – Your Love Is My Drug, 3 Doors Down – Kryptonite, Shinedown – Second Chance, Uncle Kracker – Smile, David Cook – Light On, Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire, Kris Allen – The Truth, Theory Of A Deadman – Not Meant To Be, Adam Lambert – Whataya Want From Me, Daughtry – Home, John Mayer – Heartbreak Warfare

Taking a real chance, huh?

Carly caught on News 10

Could be worse...

While prepping for an interview on News 10 Good Morning today, Carly Fiorina made fun of Barbara Boxer’s hair. Apparently this is news. I find this odd, as I clearly remember reading a study that identified a gene that, when activated in females, significantly increases snarky exposition on women’s hairdos. When activated in males, it increases the likelihood that they will attempt self-fellatio during adolescence. Either way, we should accept it as part of nature and remember not to do it in a television studio while running for the US Senate. On his blog at KXTV, Dan Elliott points out that News 10 was classy and did not play the tape. He also declared the event “barely newsworthy” and that wannabe gotcha journalism that simply catches famous people off guard to embarrass them is an odd cultural trend. Cheers to News 10 to not jumping on the tired gotcha bandwagon.

Don Geronimo to return to Sacramento airwaves

Thanks to reader Stephanie for the tip, as we learned today via the Twitter pages that Don Geronimo of the Don & Mike Show fame will return to KHTK on June 21st. This presumably means the end of the Jim Kozimor show.

To start, I’ll do 3 wks a month from an OC studio, 1 week a month from Sac-town. Plans are to relocate to Sac eventually. A new home!

I still have the mp3 of his first show back after the tragic death of his wife, Freda, in 2005. Powerful stuff.

Welcome back to Sacramento, Don!

Sacramento Bee Online. Really?

Have you been to sacbee.com lately? Good grief has it become an advertising battleground. Do you remember that scene in Airplane! when Rex Kramer is trying to walk through the airport and has to fight off one activist after the other? That’s what browsing sacbee.com is like for me right now. The last straw was the “your free content will start in….” lightbox pop-up that you can’t close.

I get it, times is tough all over and you have to keep the lights on, but really? Really?

More weirdness with SacBee comments

Here’s one I have not seen before. In the 911 blog, there is a story about a 16 year old kid who had a pipe bomb, flammable liquids and bomb making instructions. His mom found these things and turned him in to the police.

The story takes an interesting turn in the comment section. A reader who goes by the name ilikepiee claims to be the boy who was arrested. He admits that he is guilty and discusses his plans to blow something up just for fun, not to hurt anyone or destroy anything. It is just me, or does this bring up all sorts of strange legal issues?
