Let’s get physical, physical

That’s the song the obnoxious person was singing at El Palmar about 15 minutes ago.

Even a regular margarita, chased by a banana margarita, did not lessen my annoyance for said person with the booming voice across the room. Not that I expect El Palmar to be a quiet haven, nor have I never not been on the receiving end of a public shushing, but where do we draw the line? Continue reading “Let’s get physical, physical”

We Don’t Need Another Hero

What we need is more national attention in the media like in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. Profiled on page 4 in the “Obsessive Fan of the Week” blurb is Lincoln resident Joe Ristau who has an entire room of his house dedicated to all things Tina Turner, including every CD, recordings of all her TV appearances, autographs, posters, trading cards, and cardboard cut-outs. There is no Ike in sight in the photo.

Yes, this is a pointless post; I was just excited to see Lincoln in my magazine. Yay for Joe the Tina Turner fan!

Paul’s Long Run

Even if the only time you listen to Y92 is when you’re at the dentist office, you probably know who Paul Robins is — the morning DJ and former longtime on-air partner of Phil Cowan, comprising the duo Paul & Phil (AKA “The Nicest Guys in Radio.”)

Less than an hour ago, Paul left his morning drive studio to start on his 92.5 mile run around the Sacramento area to raise funds to purchase new vans for Atkinson Youth Services. He will return to his studio by 7am tomorrow to finish up tomorrow morning’s show. If he needs to be pushed in a wheelchair to get there, he will donate $5,000 out of his own pocket. He is committed to making it the entire way under his own power.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

When we moved into our official married couple house just before Christmas, we noticed that our cross-the-street neighbors still had pumpkins on their front porch. Since they have the most beautifully updated house on the block, keep their yard immaculate, were the first to welcome us to the ‘hood, and seem to be awesome people in general, I didn’t think much of it. I figured the pumpkins had been there so long that they didn’t notice them anymore.

Do you have to let it linger?

When referencing this year’s cold and flu season, the answer is a resounding “YES!”

This is truly the affliction that will not go away, and I’ve heard horror stories of people whose nasty cold has turned into pneumonia. It’s an insidious bug going around, one that will knock you out for days, have you hack up a lung every quarter hour, make your chest scream in pain, run a fever, make you dizzy — and once you start feeling better and resuming a fraction of your normal activities, it will come back in the ring to take another swing.

Bottom line? Rest up, my friends. If you’re sidelined by this, DO NOTHING or as little as possible. Clear your calendar. Fire up the electric blanket and settle down with your pet of choice and remote control. Keep hydrated, and stay classy.

Be the change you wish to see

I’d like to give special recognition to the woman working at the Del Taco on near Howe & La Riviera who did not question my giving her an odd amount of cash to cover my Chicken Tacos Del Carbon (a high protein, lowfat meal) for today’s dashboard dining.

Wow, someone who actually knows how to make change — this calls for a special posting on the sacrag!
